who am i? 30+ fandom old & corporate emo still obsessively writing in the social network fandom. I dabble in BTS, assorted danmei, smallville and your standard emo bandom (MCR & FOB). i love fluffy dogs, green glass and complaining about my job. this journal contains rants about how slowly my green glass is being posted to me, write-ups about holidays and gigs, and everyday/life updates including some musings on fandom.

who are you? i hope you're friendly and like chatting/commenting occasionally, and you don't mind me commenting on your posts! having a fandom in common is great but not mandatory!

Followed you back in here, as we’ve spoken on mastodon before.

It’s mostly fandom stuff on my journal, with occasionally irl bits. I tend to post all the fandom things as public and all the irl bits as friends only.

It nice being able to set access post by post, and I don’t know why more sites never went with it.


In general I’m not as active on here as twitter/mastodon, but I’m trying to get back in the habit on being on here more often.

I started out on LJ back in 2005/06, only really drifted away as the Torchwood fandom faded and I started writing Rivers of London and Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell fic - both small/smallish book based fandoms that only seemed to be active on Tumblr.

It would be nice to see dreamwidth busier again. I don’t think it will get back to how it was 15 or so years ago.

There seems to be a nostalgia for it, and even web forums, maybe it’s all of us who were late teens/early 20s back in the journaling sites heydays 2000/2010 are close to 40/40+ these days.

i think i probably joined lj around the same time? I followed a writer i admired from ffnet over in around hmmm 2004??? 😂 i was in a really specific anime fandom then but i quickly diversified over the next couple of years into bandom and some really niche media/ships. i am SO certain i read fic on torchwood_classic!!!!!!

i'm definitely seeing more interest on mastodon at least for journaling and standalone sites....i so want that flame to keep getting fanned!!!! let's go 30s 40s+ people!!!!

Oh, you're into Danmei? I tried getting into that a year or two back to moderate success. I bought a lot of Danmei books, but only made it halfway through one of them (The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation). I did watch about half of The Untamed, though. I really enjoyed it and should pick it up again and watch the remainder of it because I do want to know what happened Wei Wuxian (and if his ship with Lan Wangji ever became a thing)!

I'm also a huge fan of Fall Out Boy, and I watched Smallville a long time ago and loved it. I enjoyed Clark with Lex, of course. It's a great ship, and I'm always a sucker for enemies to lovers.

I really should! The Untamed also has beautiful clothing. I'm always admiring what they're wearing. You're right, though, the scenery is beautiful as well. I really enjoyed it!

oh you're so right i love the drapery! i've definitely been inspired in my wardrobe choices after watching so many xianxia shows

favourite fob song is way too hard!!!! i'm always weak for uhhhh the ENTIRETY OF TTTYG every track shatters me... with every breath i wish your body would be broken again

the save rock and roll and mania albums broke me entirely when they came out.... AB/AP doesn't get enough respect imo. from mania....i still think champion bangs so hard.... from stardust my fave is probably hold me like a grudge ????? maybe????

Huh! I don't actually know that album (TTTYG) too well. I'll have to listen to it! I think Mania is the one I'm most familiar with, though I've plucked favorite songs from multiple different albums due to FOB being on a lot of character playlists I listen to!

Some of my favorite FOB Songs are: Church, Centuries, The Phoenix, The Last of the Real Ones, and My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark. There are a lot more than that, but those are the ones that stick out to me at first glance. ♥

So do you like mostly rock music? What kind of music do you generally listen to? I think mine is mostly melancholy music (like deeply, depressingly sad) and that generally tends to be pop-ish? I also like Rock, Metal, and Rap. I can listen to just about everything if it's sad enough as long as it's not Polka. Haha.

i think my taste is probably best described as alt rock, emo and pop punk....and then pure pop hahahah.... i was pretty invested (and still am i guess....) in the emo scene in 2006-2009 so my regular go-tos are like taking back sunday, the used, jimmy eat world, blink, fob, mcr, motion city soundtrack and so on... i also listen to a chunk of kpop tbh. mostly stuff from a decade ago though to be honest.

ngl if i wanna get sad i queue up bleachers or fun. 😂

my spotify history is a total shit show though because i also pretty much solely listen to playlists i have made for writing particular fics or other people have made for ships i'm into LOL....my data is a meeeeessss

That's so fair! I know only a little about emo music (as in, the sound, not like... melancholy music). One of my favorites that I like is Blonde Hair, Black Lungs, by Sorority Noise. At least, I've been told that's emo music. I don't actually know, though. I really like it though! It's something of an acquired taste in the sound, but I love music like that.

I'll admit, I don't know a lot of those bands. They're not familiar to me, but I'd be happy to occasionally trade music with you, so I could learn some of them. I'm always glad to find new music.

I DO THAT SAME THING. This is what my Spotify looks like in its most base form. It's almost entirely playlists for characters, roleplays, or ships!

yeah, i'd call these guys emo! they've just started out a little later in the game. if you like this track you could try set phasers to stun by taking back sunday and go from there? if you're looking for something fun in the screamo area you could also sample some from first to last haha... it's all very taste dependent and tbh lot of the emo scene is really more around shared memories. so sometimes if you're like "why the fuck would anyone like this...." it's probably just more about the nostalgia.

Oh, good! I love that song, I stick it on character playlists when it fits. Ooh!! I like the song you linked me to (Set Phasers to Stun)! It's a lot of fun, and I looked up the lyrics, and they're interesting as well. I think I like the second one a little better though. I'm a big fan of screaming in music (well, as long as I can tell what they're saying! Sometimes that difficult because I have an auditory processing disorder. Usually I just look up the lyrics and follow along.

Nah, I don't question why anyone likes any music. Someone once told me that the music I listened to made them want to take antidepressents, lol, and they're not wrong. My taste in music generally revolves around angst. That's because I'm a huge sucker for it, I find it very cathartic!

If you don't mind my showing you two songs that I like... they're not emo, but they are some of my favorite songs. Neptune, by Sleeping At Last and What Could Have Been, by Sting (from the superb animated LOL show, Arcane).

Haha, my Spotify has to be organized, I have over 80 playlists, lmao. Yours looks kind of chaotic, but as long as it works for you, that's what matters, lmao. Mine is completely organized, like: one.

I like this song, Neptune! Really big throwback The Fray vibes, especially Look After You. I like their second album more, but if you like that song the majority of the second album (just called 'The Fray' lol) is very much like that track.

Oh wow Sting!! Still around! I like this song too. I haven't seen Arcane, but I need to eventually do that. I think I'll like it.

Arcane is so stunning. It took me years to get around to watching it, but it immediately hooked me, and that's all it took. It's so well done. I hope you get around to it eventually. It's absolutely worth the watch. One of my all-time favorite shows, now.
